what fall means to me...

I cannot believe the fall is here again and boy is it a cold one! I am so not looking forward to coat-wearing weather. Fall is staring to become busier for us than the summer is. And, I think more people are getting married in the fall than ever before. Last fall, I was in 2 weddings and this fall, we are in Matt's sister's wedding. I love weddings. Who doesn't though, right? Love is in the air, everyone is dressed up, letting loose, dancing away, flowers are flying, great cake, lots of family and friends, and at the end, there is another happy couple!
The child in me loves to celebrate halloween- well, I'm not so much of a hands-on celebrater all decked out in a costume, I am really just a nerdy-celebrater. I love love love sitting at the end of my driveway in our huge sub-division with my husband and my dog and watch all of the trick-or-treaters. I especially love when families include their dogs. So, this year, I will have treats for the kids and treats for the dogs! Speaking of dog treats, I have an obsession with making homeade dog treats. I stick with the simpler recipes but Irish seems to love them. I have cookie cutters and all. I love baking them- Irish is there by my side starring at the oven- she knows they are for her!
Fall also means Notre Dame football! We get to go to the ND vs USC game this year which is coming up in just a couple of days! I LOVE going to ND and spending the day with my husband. Thanks to Matt's Aunt Pat, we have the best seats.
Fall also means a trip to our favorite apple orchard- I dont go for the apples, I go for the apple donuts and an apple cider slush. They are the very best.
Fall also means some great rummage sales- one of my favorite hobbies. I got almost everything on my garage sale list this summer except I am looking for one more thing. I continue to keep my eyes open!
I can't wait to partake in other halloween/fall activities later in life when we have little ones!

Happy Halloween everyone!

blessed be the name of the LORD!

Okay.. so, a lot has happened in the heiden home in the last couple of weeks. Many of you know that Matt took a huge leap of faith in January by giving his notice at the golf course where he had been securely employed for the past 5 years. The golf business isn't family friendly- us both knowing this the entire time he was there just thought that maybe somehow we could get adjusted to it since Matt loved that job so much. However, we decided to take the leap knowing that God had something better in store for us- something that would require less of Matt's time.

So, we went through the winter months with Matt being unemployed and with this economy, we all know how risky that was. However, we put our trust in God to provide... and He did! His first provision for us was when Matt got a full-time substitute teaching position with Anderson schools for a couple of months. He has his teaching license and was considered a "guest teacher." We were incredibly blessed with this opportunity even though it would end in June. The reassurance God gave us was awesome as He gave Matt his FIRST pay check the same day Matt would have received it if he were returning to the golf course. Whew... coincidence? I think not!

So, after his teaching position ended, he began the search for something permanent. Even though I believe Matt would be a wonderful teacher, Matt wanted a sales position- something where he could help people, develop relationships, and have a flexible schedule. Matt signed on with Farmers Insurance in July. He was happy (and a little scared at the same time) with this opportunity and his decision to sell insurance since he was going to be able to learn a lot. He received his licenses and certification and began selling. The sales were slow as there is a huge learning curve with insurance and we got frustrated at times; however, we wanted to push on.

A month later, Matt was recruited for another sales position selling insurance but turned down the position as it was too similiar to what he was currently doing. However, something sparked in Matt's mind to put his feelers in the market again just to see if there was something better out there- something salaried and a little more stable. He came across a position that looked perfect for him. Me, being the realist I am and over critical of about everything, thought this was too good to be true- millions will apply. Well, I was wrong. After 3 interviews and 5 very long weeks of waiting for answers, Matt secured his almost dream job. He starts Sept 14th, 2009 as the Territory Sales Manager for Dyson. He will visit stores everywhere from Indianapolis to Gary making product recommendations and training employees on how to use Dyson's latest and greatest products.

I can truly say that our time in this very deep valley of uncertainty and dependance from January 2009 to August 2009 was joyous. Even as we watched our savings account dwindle and had to turn down many opportunities because we couldn't afford them, we truly made the very best of our situation and it was a true delight to depend on our Provider each and every day. We know for a fact that God WILL take care of us no matter what. We feel humbled to have been put in this situation because we grew closer to our Father and to eachother. Thank you, Jesus for showing us that if we are faithful to you and your Word, you will provide. We've witnessed it first hand and are forever grateful.

(for those of you who so generously bought insurance from Matt and haven't been notified of this change, please do not be alarmed. Matt is going through the steps to see who will be taking over your account IF you want to stay with Farmers. If not, Matt will help get you transferred to somewhere else if you want his help. He will contact you each individually very soon. Thank you, friends for your support. We love you!)

HOLE-IN-ONE baby!

Yes, that is right, my baby got a Hole-in-One yesterday (7/29/09)! He is so deserving of this honor.. it didn't come with luck... He has skill! Matt has a love for the game of golf like I have a love for retail. It's a love of respect :) We were a little bummed to know there was no car or cash tied to this sweet victory but we both are completely satisfied with his accomplishment.. so satisfied that a prize wouldn't have added much. Getting a hole-in-one is something that would have been on Matt's 'bucket list' if he had one! So..ccchhheecckkk!

Sweet Summertime

Where has the time gone? I feel like these months are passing by so quickly. I cannot believe how quickly the 4th of July holiday went! I also can't believe how awful the weather was! We still had a good time on the boat and were able to watch fireworks but where were you, sun? Our summer schedule is filling up quickly.. we have a trip planned to kings island and also to indiana beach. I am finishing up my summer statistics class as part of the MBA program at Ball State and I will be so happy for that class to be over! I only have 2 more classes left and I will have my Masters! Crazy! We will be filling up the rest of our summer with spending time with family, doing as many things with Irish as we can, golfing, rummage saleing, attending the festivities for Matt's sisters wedding, using my sister's discounts at the places she works (yay!), and enjoying our pool in our neighborhood.
I am definitely missing having a drive-in movie theater so close to us! They closed this year and I cannot locate another one :( We have been going since Matt and I met (2003) and then we started taking Irish which was an absolute blast! O'well- we have other fun things around us to enjoy the summer like Hamilton Town Center- love that mall!

ta ta for now...

Need insurance? Or willing to get a quote?

Matt and I would not only be honored, but incredibly blessed if you would like to buy insurance through us. Matt is an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance which is a huge company and one of few that has survived this financial crisis. We have taken a leap of faith to pursue a career that will hopefully be more family friendly. We are confident that God will continue to provide for us even with this commission-only position. Please call or email Matt, the new insurance expert in town :), anytime to request a quote. Major discounts can be given if you insure both your home and auto(s) and even life. We appreciate any business you or anyone you know could give us. Thanks and maybe we could do the same in return for your business!

movin' on up!

I never thought that I would have a blog. I also said that I would never have an email address because that type of communication wouldn't last. haha. Shows how much I know about technology and how proud you all should be of me for setting this thing up... but, it is kinda fun :)

I also want to add to this post that tomorrow is our 3rd year wedding anniversary. Matt and I were married on June 17, 2006 in Markleville, IN on a beautiful summer day. We had so much fun and were so thankful to our family and friends for making it so special. We celebrated our 3 years in sunny Siesta Key, FL two weeks ago. We took Irish and had a blast. God blessed our time there like no one else ever could- we know our r&r was from Him :)

I love you my Matt and thank you for living life with me! Many many more years to come!
